Parippu Vazhathandu (Tur Dal-Plantain stem) Koottu Curry


Ingredients:-

Parippu (Tur Dal)                                                                 1 cup

Salt                                                                                         To taste

 

Vaazhathandu ( plantain stem ) cut into 1″ pieces            2 cups

Coriander powder                                                                       1/2 teaspoon

Turmeric powder                                                                       1/4 teaspoon

 

Tamarind                                                                                gooseberry sized (soak in water)

 

Coconut (grated )                                                                     2 cups
Green chillies                                                             4 nos.

Cumin                                                                                     1 tsp
Button onion                                                                           4 nos.

Oil                                                                                           1 tablespoon
Mustard                                                                                  1/2 tsp
Asafoetida                                                                             a pinch
Curry leaves                                                                           1 sprig
Method:-

Pressure cook Dal along with salt.   Add plantain stem and  bring to boil.  Add coriander powder, and turmeric powder.  Add tamarind water.  Grind coconut, green chillies, cumin and button onions.  Add and bring to boil.

 

Heat oil.  Add mustard.  When it splutters, add curry leaves and asafoetida.  Pour it into the Kootu.
