Beans Mezhukkupuratty


1.         French beans(sliced diagonally to 1″piece)  250 gms.

Onion            (sliced)           1 no.

Green chillies (slit)            2 nos.

Salt                             to taste


2.         Oil                               1 tablespoon

Garlic                          2 pods

Red chillies                        2 nos.

Button onion               4 nos.

Curry leaves             1 sprig




Heat oil.  Crush garlic, red chillies, curry leaves, and button onions and add it to the hot oil.   Saute until onions become golden brown.  Add sliced beans, onions, green chillies and salt.   Stir well.  Lower the fire and sprinkle little water over the beans and cover with a lid.  Cook for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.  Remove from fire and serve hot along with rice.


Beans Thoran


Beans is nicknamed as “poor man’s meat”, as it has great source of protein.  It also contains B vitamins, iron, pottassium, and magnesium.   Enjoy beans thoran with rice.Ingredients:-

French Beans chopped                     3 cups

Grated coconut                       1 cup

Button onion                           4 nos.

Green chillies             3 nos.
Turmeric powder                       1/2 tsp


Oil                                           1 table spoon
Button onion                           3 nos.

Mustard seeds –                       1 tsp
Curry leaves                           1 sprig


Mix together finely chopped beans, button onions, green chillies, grated coconut, turmeric powder and salt.

Heat oil in a pan.  Add mustard seeds and allow it to splutter.  Add button onions and curry leaves to it.  Add the mixture into the pan and cook on low flame for 8 minutes.  Remove from fire and stir well.
